Kenduli Jaydeb 2013 Mella

A Mella on Makar Sankranti

On the occasion of Makar Sankranti {Marks the transition of the Sun into Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path , remains constant on 14th January} large number of people from surrounding villages converge at the place of birth of the well-known Sanskrit lyricist Jayadeva  (author of "Geet Gobindo" ) . He is most known for his composition, the epic poem Gita Govinda, which depicts the divine love of Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, and his consort, Radha.

reach Ajayghat (in Burdhwan district), opposite of Kenduli village (in Birbhum district), by road (26 KM) from Durgapur . For crossing the river, there was a earthen 'bridge' post raining season. I found the descriptions of Mella , as in following poem  (given to me by an old gentleman) so accurate :-
